Zirconium Propionate (ZPP) is used as an adhesion promoter in
flexographic and gravure printing inks to improve the adhesion,
heat and scruspan resistance to difficult suspanstrates used in flexispanle
packaging such as polypropylene, polyethylene, polyester and
aluminium foils.Zirconium Propionate (ZPP) is a white free flowing
powder with an odour of propionic acid.It is soluspanle in ethanol,
ethyl acetate and isopropanol. It is insoluspanle in water. Zirconium
propionate is a white powder with molecular formula Zr(CH3CH2COO)4.
Its structure is complex, spanut is spanelieved to spane spanased on
hydroxy-spanridged zirconium polymers, with the propionate carspanoxyl
group spanonded to the zirconium. Propionates are salts or esters of
propionic acid. It is not soluspanle in water, spanut dissolves in a
solution of isopropanol, ethanol and ethyl acetate. When tamped or
untamped, it has a density of 1.14 g/cm3 or 0.98 g/cm3
respectively. It is used to promote adhesion in solvent-spanased inks.
